ViCi qualify for BLAST Fall Showdown; secure second international appearance of 2021

WeiJie "⁠zhokiNg⁠" Zhong and company topped the Chinese qualifier to book a slot in the 16-team event.

ViCi have earned a spot at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown after beating Lynn Vision in the grand final of the Douya Fall Cup, joining POGGERZ and Movistar Riders on the team list for the tournament.

The Douya Cup kicked off with an eight-team, best-of-one GSL group stage, from which the top two teams from each group advanced to the single-elimination playoffs. There, ViCi saw to the elimination of TYLOO, while Lynn Vision took down Wings Up to set up a final match for a spot in the Showdown.

ViCi had little difficulty in securing a victory over Lynn Vision, with Yi "⁠JamYoung⁠" Yang scoring a 1.67 rating on Ancient en route to a 16-8 win, and Zhuo "⁠advent⁠" Liang leading the way on Nuke with a 1.65 rating to bring the series to a swift end.

The qualification sees ViCi secure their second international event appearance in the last year, having made their way to the play-in stage of IEM Cologne prior to the tournament break only to be eliminated from the event in 13-16th place after losses to Complexity and Evil Geniuses.

The BLAST Premier Fall Showdown, taking place from October 12-17, will offer the Chinese team even less leniency as the brutal single-elimination, best-of-three format leaves them with just one chance to prove their worth.

Five more spots at the event are set to be distributed via various regional qualifiers in the coming weeks. Two additional teams will receive direct invites to compete, while the remaining spots will be determined by which teams place at the bottom of the BLAST Premier Fall Groups.
